Privacy Policy

We like our privacy, so you can be assured that we'll cherish yours as much as we cherish our own.  The short answer is that we collect minimal information on account users and mail list subscribers, and none on visitors.  The information that we do collect is NOT distributed in any manner.  We value your privacy.

AUTOMATICALLY COLLECTED INFORMATION - Our server logs automatically collect various visitor information such as IP address, browser type, host name, referring addresses.  This information does not identify you personally.  We use this information to track problems with finding or displaying the pages of our website.

COOKIES - We will use cookies to remember your player preference settings and your account information.  You can always disable cookies in the privacy settings of your browser.  We link to third parties from this site, which will have their own cookie and privacy statements.

PERSONAL INFORMATION - If you are a visitor to our site, we do not collect any personal information.  If you sign-up for our mailing list newsletter, we collect your name and e-mail address.  We do NOT share your e-mail information with other parties, and you can always unsubscribe from the mailing list.  If you create an account on crystalballMedia, we collect information necessary to service your account; including your IP address and your birthdate. We collect your birthdate in compliance with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act.

SECURITY - Any personal information we gather from you when you create or maintain your account is stored in a secured database and transmitted using secure socket layer (SSL).

PUBLIC INFORMATION - Though we do not currently have public forums or public guest books, we do have public videos.  The privacy and security of your family are very important to us.  We strongly encourage you to insure that your public videos do NOT contain any personally identifiable information about your family.  For example, do not use your child's full name.  Do not show photos or movies of your child at a publicly recognizable location that your child frequents (such as school, church, park, etc). Do not video tape your child wearing clothing with physically identifying words or markings, such as the name of the school or activities your child attends. DO use other common sense practices, such as avoiding pictures and movies of the street side of your house, street signs, city names if you live in a small community, etc.  If you want to publish a video of your child's graduation from pre-school and the school is easily identifiable from the video, we strongly encourage you to utilize our private portal options.  These guidelines apply whether your child is two-legged or four-legged.  We reserve the right to enforce these guidelines for protecting the privacy of children.  For additional information regarding protecting the privacy of children on the internet, see COPPA - Children's Online Privacy Protection Act.

ADVERTISERS - We do not allow pop-up advertisements or spyware on any of the crystalballMedia webpages.  We use banner ads and google ad words in the public portals to help defray the cost of the publicly available media.  The banner ads are hosted on our server, and do not involve third-party cookies; which by the way, can be blocked in the privacy settings of your browser.  Crystal Ball Media does not utilize Web Beacons.

Important note about third party cookies, spyware and such.  If you use a spyware blocking program, you may be notified of "Avenue A" as a known threat.  After an embarrassing episode, I can assure you that Avenue A currently is nothing more than a third party cookie, and can be blocked in your browser settings, or you can visit Avenue A's parent company Atlas DMT to secure a special cookie that instructs the Atlas DMT companies to Opt-Out of cookies.  Unfortunately, during the research, considerable commentary was found indicating that Real Player may participate in spyware activities.  If you elect to install Real Player following a link from our site, you should research this matter and draw your own conclusions.

EXTERNAL LINKS - Hyperlinks on our site may link to an external site.  We are not responsible for the content and security of third party sites, though we will not link to third party sites who use pop-up or spyware advertising.  External links can be identified by holding your mouse over the link and seeing "Opens in a New Window" in the tool tip; try it on the spyware link in this paragraph.
